Why air conditioning in the classroom?

Classrooms are challenging spaces for climate control. A full class of 25 to 30 pupils produces a considerable amount of body heat. Combined with sunlight through large windows and insufficient ventilation, the temperature quickly rises above 30 degrees in the summer months.

For a single classroom, a single-split air conditioner is enough. The system is easy for the teacher to operate via remote control or control panel. For two to five classrooms, a multi-split system per wing or floor is more cost-efficient than separate installations per classroom, with one outdoor unit serving several classrooms. Where do you place the air conditioner in a classroom?

Placement in a classroom calls for attention to noise and airflow. A direct airflow onto pupils or the teacher is uncomfortable and can lead to complaints.

The indoor unit is best mounted high on the wall at the back of the class, opposite the board, so that the air cools the room without blowing directly onto pupils or the teacher, and the teacher is not distracted by the unit in their field of view. Set the fan speed to the lowest setting during lessons, because modern models from Daikin and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries are barely audible on the lowest setting. In school buildings with a suspended ceiling, pipes can be fully concealed. In older school buildings, our engineers use cable trunking that matches the existing finish.
