Heating with an air conditioner
Heating with an air conditioner is an affordable and energy-efficient way to add extra comfort to your home or business premises. An air conditioner is ideal as heating for spaces such as living rooms, bedrooms, offices or workplaces. Heating with an air conditioner can be up to 50 percent cheaper than heating with gas.

Advantages of heating with an air conditioner
- Energy-efficient. Up to 50% cheaper — Thanks to heat pump technology, an air conditioner uses much less energy than traditional heating systems. For every unit of electricity, it delivers several units of heat.
- Only heat where needed — An air conditioner only heats the room it hangs in. That way you do not waste energy on rooms that are not in use and you avoid unnecessary costs.
- Less dependent on gas — By heating (partly) with an air conditioner, you use less gas. This makes you less dependent on fluctuating gas prices and increases your energy security.
- Environmentally friendly — Because an air conditioner takes heat from the outside air, the system emits less CO₂ than heating on gas or oil. This makes it a more sustainable choice.
- Saves space and costs — One appliance for cooling and heating. In addition, an air conditioner is cheaper to buy than a central heating heat pump.
- Fast and comfortable — An air conditioner heats rooms quickly and ensures a pleasant indoor climate, regardless of the outside temperature.
- Easy to apply — Quick to install and position, with minimal structural alterations.
A major advantage is that you can quickly and precisely heat one specific room, instead of the whole building, as you would with a central heating system. This avoids unnecessary heating costs in unused rooms and saves you money on your energy bill straight away. You heat exactly where and when it is needed.
You can buy an air conditioner from € 1.755,- including VAT and installation. View the price list.
An air conditioner used for heating runs on electricity and always with an outdoor unit. This ensures reliable performance, even at lower outdoor temperatures. With rising gas prices and the growing need to become more sustainable, an air conditioner as heating is a smart choice, both financially and ecologically. In addition, a modern air conditioner with heating provides not only warmth but also cooling, so you enjoy a comfortable indoor climate all year round.
Thanks to the latest technologies, air conditioners with a heating function are very energy-efficient and effective. This results in lower energy costs.
Efficient heating with heat pump technology
All new air conditioning installations are nowadays equipped with a heating mode that works on the efficient principle of a heat pump. This makes an air conditioner ideal not only for cooling on warm summer days, but also for energy-efficient heating in winter.
Thanks to this technology, the air conditioner extracts heat from the outside air and distributes it through your home, even at low outdoor temperatures. This is an efficient and environmentally friendly way to keep your home comfortable all year round. With an air conditioner with a heating function, you invest in a smart, sustainable solution that provides optimum comfort in every season.
Which installation suits you?
The choice of air conditioner depends on your situation and preferences. Nowadays every air conditioner can both cool and heat, so it mainly comes down to what you like and what fits best in your space. Do you prefer a wall-mounted unit or a floor-standing unit? And is one outdoor unit enough, or is it more practical in your situation to place two outdoor units? We are happy to think along with you and advise you on the best solution for your home or business.
What will you save by heating with an air conditioner?
The saving from heating with an air conditioner depends mainly on energy prices. With a central heating boiler, 1 m³ of gas delivers about 9.7 kW of heat; for the example we round this to 10 kW. For the same 10 kW of heat, an air conditioner needs about 2.0 to 2.5 kW of electricity, depending on the S.C.O.P. value of the system. In the example we use 2.25 kW.
| Situation | Required | Cost (rates November 2025) |
| 10 kW of heat via central heating boiler | 1 m³ gas (€ 1,17 per m³) | € 1,17 |
| 10 kW of heat via air conditioner | 2.25 kW electricity (€ 0,28 per kWh) | € 0,63 |
Heating with air conditioning is faster and makes it possible to heat only the rooms that are used. This leads to lower energy consumption and higher efficiency.
Capacity
The heating output needed per square metre (m²) depends on several factors, including insulation, window area and the desired comfort level. A general guideline for heating capacity per m² is:
| Year of construction | Heating output per m² |
| 2000 to 2011 | 90 Watt |
| 2011 to 2018 | 70 Watt |
| 2018 to present | 50 Watt |
