Multi-split air conditioner with 3 indoor units: what you need to know

A multi-split system with 3 indoor units is the most popular configuration for families who want to cool or heat the whole home. The most common combination is a living room, a bedroom and a second bedroom or study, but any combination of three rooms is possible. Aircobrabant supplies only multi-split systems from <a href="/daikin-aircos/multi-split/3-binnenunits">Daikin</a> and <a href="/mitsubishi-aircos/multi-split/3-binnenunits">Mitsubishi Heavy Industries</a>, brands we have been installing for more than 20 years for homeowners and businesses in Eindhoven and the surrounding area.

When should you choose a 3-split system?

A 3-split system is the right choice if you want to cool or heat three rooms with one outdoor unit. Compared with three separate single-split installations, you only need one outdoor unit, which is cheaper and looks neater on the façade. If you want to add a fourth room later, it is wise to choose a 4-indoor-unit system now, where the outdoor unit already has capacity for an extra indoor unit. Our advisers will think along with you free of charge about the best configuration for your situation.

What capacity do you need?

The total capacity of the outdoor unit must be sufficient for all three indoor units. We work with a standard of 35 watts of cooling capacity per cubic metre of the room to be cooled. For a living room of 35 m², a bedroom of 15 m² and a study of 12 m², that comes to a total capacity of around 5.6 kW. In practice, an outdoor unit of 5 to 6.8 kW is the right choice for most 3-split configurations. Our advisers calculate the exact capacity free of charge during the survey.

Which indoor units can you combine?

With a 3-split system you can combine the three indoor units freely. Three wall-mounted units is the most common combination, but you can also combine a wall-mounted unit with a floor-standing unit if one room has large windows or sloping walls. For a bedroom we always recommend the model with the lowest noise level. Each indoor unit controls its own room independently and has its own remote control or app control.

Can I combine three different indoor unit types in a 3-split system?

Yes. For example, you can combine two wall-mounted units with a floor-standing unit in a room with sloping walls or large windows. The outdoor unit makes no distinction between types of indoor unit, as long as the total capacity is not exceeded. Our advisers will recommend the best combination for your situation.

Can each room have a different temperature?

Yes. Each indoor unit controls the temperature in its own room completely independently. You can set the living room to 22 degrees, the bedroom to 18 degrees and the study to 20 degrees, all at the same time.

How much does a 3-split multi-split air conditioner cost including installation?

A 3-split system including installation starts at € 3.800 at Aircobrabant. The exact price depends on the models chosen, the capacity required and the complexity of the installation. You always receive a fixed quote in advance.
