Buying a floor-standing air conditioner: what you need to know

A floor-standing air conditioner sits on or just above the floor and is the ideal choice for spaces where a wall-mounted unit does not fit: large windows that run down to the floor, dormer windows or rooms with sloping walls. Aircobrabant supplies only floor-standing units from Daikin and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, brands we have been installing for more than 20 years for homeowners and businesses in Eindhoven and the surrounding area.

When should you choose a floor-standing unit?

A floor-standing unit is the best choice if there is not enough suitable wall space for a wall-mounted unit. This is the case in rooms with large windows that run down to the floor, attic rooms with sloping walls or rooms with a low roof edge. The floor-standing unit blows the air upwards along the wall, which gives an even temperature distribution without a direct airflow on people. See the full range of Daikin floor-standing units and Mitsubishi floor-standing units.

What capacity do you need?

We work with a standard of 35 watts of cooling capacity per cubic metre. For a living room of 40 m² with a ceiling height of 2.6 m, that gives a model of 3 to 4 kW. Factors such as exposure to the sun, roof insulation and roof windows can adjust this. Not sure? Our advisers calculate the exact capacity free of charge during the survey.

What are the advantages of a floor-standing unit compared with a wall-mounted unit?

A floor-standing unit offers a number of specific advantages. The airflow goes upwards along the wall, which is more pleasant than a wall-mounted unit that blows horizontally. The unit is easier to reach for operation and filter cleaning. In rooms with sloping walls or a lot of window area, a floor-standing unit is often the only practical option. In most other situations, a wall-mounted unit is the most versatile choice.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a floor-standing and a wall-mounted air conditioner?

A floor-standing unit sits on or just above the floor and blows air upwards along the wall. A wall-mounted unit hangs high on the wall and blows horizontally. A floor-standing unit is the better choice with large windows, sloping walls or rooms without a suitable wall position. In most other situations, a wall-mounted unit is the most practical option.

What capacity do I need for my space?

We work with a standard of 35 watts of cooling capacity per cubic metre. A living room of 40 m² usually needs a model of 3 to 4 kW. During the survey, our advisers calculate the exact capacity for you free of charge.

How much does a floor-standing air conditioner cost including installation?

A floor-standing air conditioner including installation starts at € 2.335 at Aircobrabant. The exact price depends on the model chosen and the complexity of the installation. You always receive a fixed quote in advance.
